| Marcus
King (1891 - 1977) was born in Taranaki in
1891. He joined the architectural division of the Public Works Department in 1906
and later transferred to Auckland where he studied under Edward Fristrom at the
Elam School of Fine Arts. After service in World War I he returned to Wellington
to become a commercial artist and part-time art teacher at the Wellington Technical
College. He joined the National Publicity Studios about 1920 and died in 1977.
He
is represented at the Auckland Art Gallery, Dowse Art Museum, Lower Hutt, Hocken
Library, Dunedin, Robert McDougall Art Gallery, Christchurch, Rotorua Museum of
Art and History, Rotorua, Sarjeant Gallery, Wanganui, Suter Art Gallery, Nelson,
Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington, Alexander Turnbull Library,
Wellington, Whangarei Art Museum.
