Alan Taylor (b. 1933 - )

arrived in New Zealand from England in 1952. He is an expressionist who has established a unique language that crosses cultural boundaries and responds to Maori, religious and political ideologies of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The words "Ihumatao NS (Native School) Mangere" at top right refer to his visits to this school and the article he wrote on it in Te Ao Hou in the early 1980s. Taylor is the author of "Maori Folk Art".

He is represented in the James Wallace Collection, Auckland, and Rotorua Museum.
