(Robert Browning) Watson (1911 - )
was born in Auckland and educated at King's College and Wanganui Collegiate. After gaining an M.A. with honours in law from Cambridge University he studied art at Heatherlys School in London and at Wellington Polytechnic. He served in the RNZAF and later gave up a Stock Exchange practice in Wellington to become a full-time painter. Some of his work has been hung in
the Paris Salon. He won first prize in the Kelliher Awards in 1967, third prize in 1966, and merit prizes in 1959, 1961, 1963, and 1968.
He is represented in the Museum
of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington.
